2020 Preakness S.

The Preakness Stakes, the second jewel of racing’s Triple Crown, is raced on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course for 3-year-olds. The race is held on dirt over a distance of 1 3/16 mile.

The Preakness is contested annually by the best 3-year-old colts, while five fillies have won the race: Flocarline (1903), Whimsical (1906), Rhine Maiden (1915), Nellie Morse (1924), and Rachel Alexandra (1925). (2009).

Smarty Jones, who won the Kentucky Derby by a record 11 1/2 lengths in 2004, finished second in the Belmont Stakes. Calumet Farm, Bob Baffert, and R. Wyndham Walden have each won the Preakness seven times, while jockey Eddie Arcaro has won the event six times.
